TR1 Richmond Hill Truro CornwallAfter many DIY repairs to a flat roof, but still evidence of leaking, the client felt she had no choice but to replace the flat roof in its entirety. She therefore requested some advice on roofing systems and a recommendation on which would be the best option for her.
On closer inspection it became clear that the original construction of the roof was poor and that two different methods of flat roof construction had been attempted. There was evidence of warm roof construction methods being adopted, and some for a cold roof construction. This meant that moisture from inside the property was passing into the roof void and condensing because no ventilation had been installed to remove the vapour. This situation, as well as leaks from a poor roof covering had rotted a number of timbers and ruined the wood deck. A number of new timbers were installed to overcome the structural issues. In addition, new supports were installed to allow a large roof lantern to be provided. A vapour barrier, rigid insulation and a vented roof void were added so that the problem would not return in the future. The roof was finished with a new ply deck and EPDM rubber roof. |
