TR12 Gweek Helston CornwallBought as a future home for the clients when they retire and move to Cornwall. The house, although being very quaint, required a fair amount of work to get it to the state the client would be happy with. One of the major jobs that needed attention was the casement windows and stable front door. Although from a distance these features looked in relatively good condition, on closer inspection they were warped and had already been spliced with new timber and evidence of lots of filler repairs within the features. All of the windows and doors were also single glazed.
After a discussion weighing up the cost of repair against building bespoke hardwood double glazed units, the client went with the latter, as they felt that it would be future proofing themselves as well as providing much better thermal efficiency. The window sills were replaced with slate at the same time, to ensure any water was drained away from the building and not into the cob walls. Additional work included the re-pointing of a rear wall, sourcing and erecting some new fascias and gutting around the entire building, and finally completion of the project by decoration of the exterior of the whole property. |
